Under 8′s Guiseley Blues vs Thackley (Away) Match Report

Under 8′s Guiseley Blues vs Thackley (Away) Match Report

Clash of the Titans week this week as we played Thackley.  The last time we played them there were many goals in a very close match.  Today the boys had to be at their best as Thackley reshuffled there team to stifle the Blues play-makers.

The game kicked off with some good opening exchanges from both sides as they settled into the game.  Guiseley opened the scoring in this game with a great move finished well by Jozef.  Jozef, putting in one of his best performances of the season so far, used his technical skills to dribble around the Thackley team and applying neat passing to set up attacks.

After the goal Thackley came back stronger and they too got their first goal of the game in fine style with a thunderbolt drive from just inside the Guiseley half.  Zac, our goal keeper today, did well to keep out the majority of Thackley efforts.  Only fantastic shooting from Thackley enabled them to score as they had to be at their best to get past Zac!!

Harry returned to defence today and did really well standing up against some very strong attackers.  An eye for the tackle and awareness of where to pass are stand outs in every game he plays.

Billy, captain for today, played in several roles and lead by example in everything he did.  Billy’s key ingredient is his attitude to the game which makes him one of our best players for reliable performances.  Unlucky not to score today in some positive attacking runs at goal.

Eddie, playing in midfield, showed some signs of better team play than the previous week and layed on several through balls to the attackers in the first half which we were unlucky not to convert into goals.  Still some work to do on team passing, but making progress in the right direction.  Unlucky with a couple of good free kicks and showed some excellent dribbling.

Up front from the start was Ewan.  Unlucky with a couple of efforts at goal in the first half which were saved by the keeper.  Good movement by Ewan enables us to stretch the opposition and find space.  Worked tirelessly to the end.

Lastly, Oliver, our newest edition to the team, made a really good start to his Guiseley career.  Playing mostly in attacking positions he showed good awareness to get into space and finding goal scoring positions.  Ollie linked up well with his new team mates and rounded off a good performance with a goal, well done!!

All in all we had a good game today.  A much tougher challenge than we have had in previous weeks and I was pleased as to how the boys stood up to it.  Looking ahead into next year I think we can expect similar challenges which I believe will help our team make another big step on in their development.

Anyone who would like to add their own comments from today please add to the bottom of the post.

Next game is Burley at Home on Sunday and looking forward to it already.
