Well, final game before the international Half Term break and the coaching team gave the boys their routine instructions for the game and to make sure the team did not let their previous games for go to their heads. The team did not disappoint!!
The game kicked of on what had turned into a beautiful Autumnal Sunday morning. The sun was shining down on the glorious Meadow Stadium turf. The pitch was looking in glorious condition, as opposed to the meadow like conditions experienced in a previous home match, with the grass short which welcomed our passing game. (A special thanks goes to Prem Beeharry, Michael Piotrowski, Simon de Lima and Damian Holmes for giving up their time on Saturday afternoon and supplying the mowers.)
The boys took full advantage of the good conditions and started passing the ball around well with confidence and really showed how far they had all come together to form a really good team. The benefits of this were soon to be seen with some good attacking play that threatened the Horsforth goal.
The coaches were particularly pleased with Zac, Louis and Harry as our defensive team. Every time they had the ball they used space well and lifted their heads to plan a pass to another team member. This gave the team the solidity to mount attack after attack and which ultimately allowed us to score goals throughout the match.
Zac, although quiet towards the end of the game, gave another assured performance by coming to get the ball quickly off his line and passing the ball well from goal. Zac did well to prevent the opposition scoring, but when his team mate smashed in a right footer he was left helpless!! Well done Zac.
Harry. I could go on for many pages describing how pleased we are with the way he plays. Yet another stand out performance capped with a couple of goals. As well as defending well Harry’s passing has improved game by game.
A special mention to Louis, our Captain today. Louis wore the armband with pride and, although sometimes the quiet one of the team, could be seen issuing instructions out to his defensive partner Harry. Louis was also unlucky not to cap his fine performance with a goal, but we are goals will come if he continues with his fine development.
Onto our attacking three who were mixed between Jozef, Ewan, Eddie and Billy. These boys worked their socks off and were relentless in winning the ball back. Their attitude caused Horsforth no end of problem as they were rushed into passes and could not get space to play. This was accompanied by some great link up play between players which lead to our goals today. The coaches had talked about movement in and around the penalty areas which the boys tried to put into practice on several occasions which also showed how well we are taking on instructions.
Billy was his usual reliable self making strong, battling runs down the wing. Billy did some great work today in getting the ball back and capped his performance by getting on the score sheet.
Eddie came into the game after the first quarter. He gave the team more space by drawing several Horsforth players at a time when running with the ball. The coaches have been encouraging Eddie to use his vision and skill to deliver passes earlier to his team mates which he put into practice throughout the game. The most eye catching were the simple passed to the opposite side of the pitch as he stretched the Horsforth team to cover a wider area. Eddie capped his performance with some quality goals.
Ewan had two briefs today; try a different position and put his foot through the ball when crossing and shooting. In midfield Ewan used his pace to make some driving runs down the right of the pitch leaving Horsforth players eating his dust. As the game progressed Ewan started trying to get cleaner strikes when kicking the ball, notably a fine cross from the right was a real stand out for me. Clinical in front of goal once again, though denied by a brilliant save from an excellent half volley drive.
Lastly, Jozef once again showed us how well he has adapted himself in the team by playing in several positions today. In attack he show great movement and vision to pass the ball into space and also chipped in with a goal. Jozef really works hard for the team and covered pretty much every blade of grass in either winning the ball back or by setting up new attacks, well done.
I think that’s everything covered from this week. Please feel free to add any comments to the bottom of this post, or Tweet, especially if you feel I missed anything or if you would like to give a spectators perspective. I will look forward to seeing them.
No game for a couple of weeks but would welcome an email back to me to your availability on either of the two upcoming weekends. We may try and arrange a friendly for one of them.
