17 Feb – Under 7s Yellows v Thackley Lightening

Slightly warmer, firmer conditions (almost firm enough to postpone due to early icy pitch) greeted the third GJFC Yellows match against Thackley on Sunday.

After the quagmire of last week the under-foot conditions brought a return to better quality football from the boys. Given the one-sided nature of our two previous fixtures, we gave Niall and Charlie a half each in goals, which gave the rest of the lads some added responsibility – which they rose to very well, I thought.

Oliver had his best game of the season and worked so hard in his usual defensive role, but also in the attacking role vacated by Niall and Charlie. His runs with the ball were excellent and he added several great goals to his tally for the season.

Lennon, Daniel and Harvey were all good, with Daniel bagging his first ever goal, being at the right place at the right time and listening to advice to get into the box. Yes Daniel!!

Joe too, played his part going forward and his confidence continues to rise on a weekly basis – he does, however, need to listen a bit more to his coaches and not forget the defensive duties he’s given at the start of the game.

Niall scored with his usual clinical strikes early doors and Charlie came out of goals in the second half and bagged a nice goal, bursting through midfield and calmly slotting home.

A few things to work on this week, but a great effort boys.

Player of the Week – The Team

Decent effort all round and not really a stand out performance that included both training and the match.
