Under 7s Blues v Thackley Thunder – Sunday 30th September 2012

Having to sit out the first week of the season, the first match of the year against Thackley Thunder was eagerly anticipated by the boys, coaches and parents.  The boys did not disappoint and produced a performance to be very proud of against a tough opposition.  All the boys participated with equal gusto and used their passing, goal scoring and set piece skills effectively and made very few opportunities for the opposition and created goal-scoring opportunities for most of the team.

In the first half, Sam L pulled off some impressive saves in goal and distributed the ball quickly, thoughtfully and accurately.  Ben and Charlie shared the keeper’s jersey in the second half and were as equally impressive and stopped a number of goal scoring opportunities from the break away charges from Thackley.

Throughout the match Charlie dominated the midfield and created lots of opportunities for the strikers and found many routes of his own through to the goal, hitting the back of the net an outstanding 4 times.

Ben was strong in midfield and read the game very well and ably supported Charlie and made some breakthrough runs splitting the opposition defence wide open.

James remained strong and solid in defence and pushed forward well, scoring an impressive 10 metre thunderbolt into the Thackley goal (11 yards for those over 30 years old).  James created lots of opportunities for goals from his corners, free kicks and throw-ins and caught Thackley off-guard most of the time.

Daniyal, Harry, Mason and Sam L worked hard throughout the match in dual striker and midfield roles and Harry was no stranger to the opposition goal scoring a fantastic hat-trick.  Mason fought hard and won the ball frequently for the team. All of their positional play improved throughout the match and their passing started to click.

Samuel S worked tenaciously and tirelessly up front, thought about his position, moved himself into goal scoring opportunities, and easily ran through the Thackley defence and was rewarded with a couple of typical striker’s goals.

Overall, a superb performance from the boys and a great start to the season and if they manage to match Craig’s exuberance and passion for the game and Ian’s cool composure they will be unbeatable.

Thank you to Ian and Craig for all the work they put into the team.

Martin (James’s Dad)
