We travelled to Baildon for our second away day visit for this top of the table clash. The weather was perfect, sunny but cool as we kicked off up the slope ! Todays team was Luke in goal, Dylan and Matthew in defence, Callum and Tom on the wings with Dan and Joel central and Bolan striker. Captains arm band was given to Joel to celebrate his birthday and his 6 goal burst last week.
Baildon were soon attacking, but Luke was alert and made a good early save, it was end to end stuff with Guiseley looking dangerous. Bolan danced through the home defence to have his effort cleared, but the loose ball fell to Dan who fired home outside the area under pressure to give the boys a deserved early lead. From the re- start both teams looked to play good football, great to see by all, this was going to be a close game. A Guiseley corner fell to Dan who fired narrowly wide. Baildon were level mid way through the half despite the vain efforts of Luke and Matthew to make it 1-1. Oliver M replaced Tom on the wing and was straight into the game looking to up the right as Callum was doing so well on the left. As half time approached Bolan was given a well earned rest and Baildon piled on the pressure but we were standing strong again today and Luke made a tremendous finger tip save over the bar. A very entertaining half came to a close with both teams enjoying themselves and appreciated by all watching.
Guiseley were now playing down the hill, but as in the first half, the side playing up hill had more ball. Chances for both teams were few and far between though as a great battle was taking place. We can more into the game and Bolans pace and Lukes great kicks caused problems for Baildon, but both defences were like rocks today. One such kick from Luke nearly went all the way, narrowly missing the post with the keeper beaten. The challenges were really going in today, one leaving Dan in a heap, but he got up. As Baildon hit the post , Guiseley were starting to look dangerous, but it was Baildon who scored next, a some what lucky goal as a high cross was dropped by Luke, unfortunately to a striker not a defender and they smashed it home. The pace quicken now by Guiseley and chances came and went as the clock ticked down. Both Matthew and Dan had to be rested following knocks picked up in this hard fought game,. The whistle went, 2-1 to Baildon, a great game, great advert for under 10 football. Both teams roundly applauded by all supporters and parents at the end. Two very even teams today as the league positions show, well done and thanks to Baildon for a great mornings football.
We could not of asked any more effort and desire from our boys today. 5 games to go, still all to play for in the league. Again as ever, very proud of everybody today.
