U8′s Guiseley Blues vs Horsforth Knights (Away) Match Report

Horsforth AwayMatch Report

Well, first game of 2013 and another good result from the team.

The game was set up 7 v 7 which meant the whole squad was utilised and each an everyone of them showed why the Blues are such a good team!

The game kicked off and our attacking players showed some good determination by winning tackles and driving forward towards the Horsforth goal.  The usual backing off to the half way line at goal kicks was not enforced in this game and our team used this to their advantage by winning the first ball from goal kicks and closing down the Horsforth midfield and defenders forcing them into mistakes.

Any goals took a while to materialise despite the Blues having the majority of possession.  When we did score it was a neat finish from Eddie cutting in from the left wing.

As the game continued we managed to keep Horsforth at bay due to the control asserted by our midfield  Jozef P was in particularly good form for this.  Jozef bossed the centre of the pitch through determination to win the ball, assured skills in ball control and the vision to make the right passes to his team mates.

Jozef was able to play his role well due to the consistency of Harry and Louis in sweeping up any Horsforth attacks, and if they missed then we had Zac in goal who kept on his toes to snuff out any danger.

In the second half of the game we showed our more ruthless streak in trying to make the game safe.  Combinations of attacks from Ollie, Eddie, Billy, Jozef and Ewan were too strong for the Horsforth defence to contain and despite some valiant efforts from their goal keeper our boys were far to clinical in making the scoreline safe.

Footballing move of the game was an incisive attack on the break.  The move was started with Jozef and Harry breaking up a Horsforth attack on the edge of our area.  The ball then broke for Harry to play a short pass into Ewan, who was already making tracks down the right wing.  Ewan then played the ball for Eddie to run onto.  After beating a couple of players with some neat skill Eddie then played the ball on for Billy to drive into the area and then cooly finish side-footing the ball past the keeper.  All the coaches look forward to seeing more of that kind of team play in future games!!

Special mention to Ollie for his second game for the Blues and putting in an impressive display of team work and skill  which lead him to netting two well deserved goals.

Last but not least a mention for Joe who played the second half in goal, switching with Zac.  With very little to do he was very alert when needed and kept Horsforth out when called upon.

Weather permitting our next league game will be against Thackley January 27th at Home; but we are considering a potential game vs the Guiseley Whites next Sunday as well, weather permitting.
