U7 Yellows v Leeds Maccabi Jets

U7 Yellows v Leeds Maccabi Jets

A crisp Sunday morning and a 10 car convoy to Moortown in Leeds, as the Yellows and Whites played Leeds Maccabi away.

We gave more game time to some of the boys who’d not played quite as much today, with Charlie going in goals and Niall spending a lot of time on the subs bench.

This almost backfired as Maccabi started very well, led by a very nimble and gifted little striker – Oliver had a tough job marshalling the defence against him in the first half, but to his credit, he gave a man-of-the-match performance today. His tackling was today matched by his awareness, I was delighted to see him get his head up and either use the space in front of him to run into or find a pass up the line.

The first half ended evens with Lennon back amongst the goals and well done for a first ever goal for Harvey! ( the look on his face alone was worth the trip). Oliver was also firing in the long range shots, but (only) just lacking in direction to register. Max, Joe and Daniel all played their part too today which will help them continue to improve over the season.

The second half, up quite a slope, was again tough – we had more of the ball but found it hard to get up the pitch. When we did we looked like scoring on a few occasions but for some good goalkeeping by Maccabi.

The second-half introduction of Niall changed the game and his drive and goal-scoring prowess took us away from Maccabi in the end. And out of a tricky position. There were a lot of tense moments today, especially amongst our supporters!!

Special mention for Charlie, who, after watching a bird in a pooing hedge as a shot fizzed wide (and taking a rather large telling off from me) redeemed himself with a ‘worldie save’ when we were under the cosh early in the second half).

Well done again boys.
