U12 Wrenthorpe Rangers 1-3 Guiseley Yellow

U12 Wrenthorpe Rangers 1-3 Guiseley Yellow

Well after last week’s performance I asked the boys for a response, and they gave it!

A heavy pitch  today made sure that who ever won, they would have to work hard for it.

Guiseley started slow and after sloppy defending Wrenthorpe scrambled the ball over the line with only a few minutes on the clock. But, like I said, I asked the boys for a response after last week and so they responded.

Fighting for every ball, attacking in numbers soon helped when Declan placed the ball through the keepers legs to level the match up on 16 minutes.

Tom was doing his usual thing, attacking with pace down the wing and 2 minutes after Declan’s goal, he put Yellows 2-1 up with a sweet left foot strike into the bottom corner.

The boys continued to press and kept the ball well to keep the score the same until half time.

At half time I asked the boys to continue to do what they were doing, I also asked them to start defending from the opposition goalie, attack the ball and spread the ball around.

They listened.

The second half started and for a solid 8 minutes, yes I was counting, Wrenthorpe didn’t get out of their own half, no way near to be honest. Fred was a total nuisance to the opposition, I saw him everywhere, he had about 6 shots in that 8 minute period, Robert, Stephen, Luke M, Tom, Declan, Jamie, Ethan and Finlay also had shots in the second half, that’s how good the passing and play was.

19 minutes into the second half Stephen sealed the victory with a lovely left foot strike into the bottom corner after twisting and turning his way into the box. 3-1 to Yellows.

Wrenthorpe were good opposition and we had a couple of scares near the end, one where I thought it would be a nailed on goal to Wrenthorpe but Luke charged out of the goal and made himself big and saved us, think he got a knee and boot for his bravery, well done Luke.

So a very well deserved victory to the Yellows, coming from 1-0 down to dominate and win the match. But I was especially pleased with the way the team responded to last week, Stephen passing the ball around, Fred fighting for the ball even though he was on the floor, Declan putting balls just over the top for the strikers,Sam J really putting himself about,  passing the ball around  and fighting for everything from Jamie, Tom, Declan, Stephen, Ethan, Sam J, Robert, Luke M, Fred, Finlay. Great work at the back from Arjan, Matthew, Jake, Josh and superb work from Luke S in goal.

That was great teamwork boys and I was very happy with you, well done.

I must add that Wrenthorpe players and Manager/Coaches were very respectful and sporting, thank you.
