Stanningley Albion 1 – 2 Guiseley Yellow

Stanningley Albion 1 – 2 Guiseley Yellow

Today’s away game was played on a farmers ploughed field…. or so it seemed. The pitch was awful and the Stanningley manager and coach couldn’t apologize enough. Even though it was nothing to do with them.

The scoreline didn’t reflect how the game went. Guiseley had about 85% possession in the first half, but we couldn’t put the ball away. I know the pitch was awful, but two teams played on it.

The second half started with Guiseley winning the ball a lot again, and with Stanningley on the attack, Matthew won the ball at the back, played it up field where  it eventually found Stephen who unselfishly crossed the ball along the line for a tap in by Finlay. That was a great team goal, what we do in training, and it’s nice to see it working in a game.

Guiseley found a bit of rhythm and on 50 mins Tom settled things with a typical Tom like goal. A sweet left foot strike up and over the keeper.

Stanningley never stopped and to their credit pulled a goal back right at the end. I don’t think Guiseley were in any trouble today, I’d also say that if we were more ruthless in front of goal, a bit more determined in winning the ball and keeping it, we could have had double figures today. But we will need to really show that in our next game.

Excellent work rate and attitude from you all today, Robert, showed the captains role when he was clearly tripped up. He just got up, and never said a word, well done tank! And you nearly scored with the free kick.

Great work from all the players today, I’m disappointed for you that you didn’t get more goals today, you deserved it.

I’d like the thank the Stanningley Manager and Coach for their excellent attitudes and their players, full credit to them.

Team: Luke, Robert, Arjan, Matthew, Declan, Jamie, Fred, Eathan, Tom, Stephen, Sam, Finlay, Josh, Jake, Alex.

Goals: Finlay, Tom

Man of the Match: Jamie. Like a wind up toy, let him go and he keeps going for the full match. Superb today Jamie, and you were very unfortunate not to get a goal for all your efforts. That was a true TEAM player performance. I want all the players to be like that if they can.

Thank you to Gavin for running the line.

Training on Friday 6-7ish!  Guiseley School Field. rugby pitch, same as last week.

I’m trying to get a game in for next Sunday, even a friendly.

Also, I would like to get the team down to Hollywood Bowl. Bit of bowling them some food, it will be during the week, probably about 4.30pm I hope that’s good for everyone. I’ll arrange that when I know its good for you all. I’d like the full squad there if possible.
