Scholemoor Lions 3 V Guiseley Greens 8

Guiseley Greens continued with their unbeaten season run with a great performance against Scholemoor Lions.

Straight from the kick off Guiseley Greens seemed really up for it, just shows what a good nights sleep the night before a game does!! Theo raced in and stole the ball from Scholemoor from their kick off and managed to squeeze the ball in the left hand corner. Guiseley pressed high up the pitch and did not give the opposition any time on the ball. Greens were awarded a free kick on the halfway line which James took and sent in a beautifully shaped cross for Nima to get on the end of to score his first goal for Greens to make it 0 – 2. Greens defence did not give Scholemoor a chance anywhere on the pitch with a complete no nonsense approach by all, special note to Will who played his first game for Greens in centre defence. Playing 3 at the back allowed Greens to play more effectiveley through the wings, well done to James and Max for supporting the wingers and getting involved more. Greens third came from a ball that came out from their defence which Max picked up and slammed a first time shot with his left into the roof of the net giving their goalie no chance. Greens 4th came from some lovely interplay between Nima and Myles down the left to play in Theo to grab his 2nd of the game. Our 5th came from some sustained pressure down the left again which resulted in Greens getting a corner, some quick thinking from Joseph played the ball short to Theo who shot top left to make it 0 – 5 at half time.

The 2nd half saw Scholemoor play with the slope and start to come back into the game, some early pressure led to Greens not defending the corner across our goal line effectively enough for the score to be 1 – 5. Greens pressed straight back and Joseph scored the goal of the game from wide on the right hitting top left hand corner giving their goalie no chance, 1 – 6. For the next 10 minutes the game got really tight with both sides going close, great work from Joseph down the right crossing in lovely balls and some strong defending and goal keeping by Josh to keep Scholemoor at bay. Scholemoor attacked through the middle who was tracked by James, who put in a last ditch tackle taking the ball first but then the player with his trailing leg for the ref to award a penalty!!!! Despite strong arms from Josh to deflect the ball onto the bar, the ball just crossed the line to make it 2 – 6 with just under 10 mins to go. Greens pressed harder for more goals and got there next from a quick bit of thinking from Myles to lay the ball to Max, who shot on goal and Theo prodded home the rebound for his 4th of the game, well done Theo. Greens final goal came from another free kick which Myles played in for Joseph to overhead kick into an open goal, great finish again Joseph. Some more great defending from Will kept Scholemoor at bay with a last ditch tackle giving Scholemoor a corner. The home team again hit the post from the corner, and Greens cleared and pushed up the pitch leaving a player unmarked in behind our defence (no offsides played today!!!!) Scholemoor played a ball over the top which they scored from the resulting cross in the dying seconds of the game. Final score Scholemoor 3 Gusieley Greens 8.

Man of the Match – voted by the players Will, great first game, well done
