Match Summary v Westwood- Sunday 16th September

We travelled to play at Westwood on Sunday. Due to illness and unavailability we only had the following squad of 8 players who played the full game:-

The early exchanges were very even with the swirling wind causing some problems especially for the keepers. Evan, Freddie and Geno  were having their work cut out to clear their lines and Marcus made two important saves-one with his head!!

Midway through the first half we took the lead. Felix,Geno and Jacob exchanged passes before Jack picked up the ball. Jack found Jacob in the area and exchanged passes before the latter was upended.  Up stepped Jack to convert the penalty. 1-0

Back came Westwood with Geno first making a great tackle and then Freddie sliding the ball behind for a corner. From the corner Marcus made a good punch but from the resulting move Westwood equalised. A number of tackles were missed as the attacker scored. Within minutes we had conceded again. This time Westwood mounted  a swift counter attack and with three attackers aginst two defenders, worked the ball with the attacker firing passed Marcus and into the net.

H/T 2-2.

Second half started with again posession and chances even. However  just before the midpoint Westwood scored a good counter attacking goal again giving Marcus no chance.  2-3.

We then endured a five minute spell where we struggled to clear our lines and Marcus made at least 3 great stops.

Despite facial knocks to Evan and Jack we mounted a sustained rally for the last five minutes of the game trying to get an equaliser. Andrew laid the ball off for Jacob whose shot was saved. From the next attack Jack hit the bar and with virtually the last kick of the game Felix’s shot was blocked.

F/T 2-3

A great effort by the boys in testing conditions and the never giving up attitude bodes well for the forthcoming league season.

Personally I thought the referee from Westwood was outstanding.
