We travelled to play Westwood on a great Autumnal morning.
The following was the squad that featured in the game:-
We kicked the match off and immediately went on the attack with Andrew finding Joseph whose cross shot just evaded Geno at the far post. A large part of the first half saw the midfielders being the centre of the action. However our defence marshalled by Max being supported by Freddie and Luke looked relatively comfortable.
We took the lead with a good passing move. Joseph exchanged passes with Jacob and pushed the ball through for Geno. Geno hit a firm shot that the keeper parried with Jack following up to tuck the ball home. 0-1.
Back came Westwood with Marcus reacting quickest to a cross shot by the attacker. Jack, Nathan and Geno’s nifty footwork were causing Westwood all sorts of problems and despite the ref wanting to maintain the flow of the game we would have benfited from having free kicks.
Westwood then equalised. From a swift passing move the ball was crossed into our area and wasn’t dealt with by our boys before the attacker fired home. 1-1
As we approached the last few minutes of the half we regained the lead. Max made a great block and found Freddie. Freddie found Jack, who danced past two defenders before finding Geno. Geno calmly drew the keeper before slotting into the corner. 1-2.
As the half ended we had to defend two particularly good Westwood corners.
We started the second half a little on the defensive with Nathan and Luke having to be alert to snuff out the danger. Following a great Joseph run the ball was squared to Andrew whose shot was deflected wide. From Jack’s corner Freddie deflected the ball goalwards with the Westwood keeper making a good save.
Marcus then made an important save, parrying the ball away just when it looked like Westwood were going to equalise. Back we came with Jack again being fouled half way into the Westwood half. Up stepped Freddie who hit the free kick goalwards. Even though the goalie had it covered the defender deflected the ball behind, narrowly missing the cross bar , for another corner. Up steppped Jack but the defender got to the ball first and set up a quick Westwood counter attack. Max snuffed out the danger with a strong tackle.
We then scored a third goal. Joseph was brought down at the end of a strong run. Up stepped Jack who curled the ball goalwards. The defender cleared the ball straight to Geno who fired in. 1-3
We then nearly scored again. From a swift counter attack, Joseph found Andrew who in turn found the overlapping Nathan whose shot went inches wide. We finished the game strongly with Jack again beating a couple of defenders before crossing into the area where Jacob just missed connecting and what would have been a goal.
A fantastic team performance where everyone worked so well supporting their team mates againt a good Westwood team.
