In front of a great crowd at Queensway school we played our crucial game against Thackley Lightening.
The following was the squad for the game:-
As usual this match was like every other we have with this Thackley team-a very close affair. The first part of the match was shaded by Thackley with Marcus making the first of a series of good saves and Thackley also hit the bar. As we came to the second part of the first half we got more into our stride with Nathan, Jacob and Joseph having shots well saved. We reached half time with things all square at 0-0.
The second half followed the same pattern but as the teams grew more tired there was more and more space and the game became end to end. Marcus made three outstanding saves, one being a double instinct save. Jack’s corners were causing all sorts of trouble and he was inches away from scoring direct from a corner. Geno, Jack and Nathan all went close. The breakthrough came with 5 minutes to go. Freddie played the ball up to Jack who flicked a first time lay off into the path of Joseph who fired low past the outstanding Thackley keeper into the back of the net. However Thackley weren’t done and from a cross come shot the ball looped over Marcus and hit the bar. The ball bounced down and was hooked clear by Nathan. From the next attack Max and Luke made two important blocks before Jack cleared. The final whistle was blown after nearly 5 minutes of injury time with both sides exhausted after they had given their all. 1-0. It was a fantastic match that could have gone either way. Every player was outstanding.
Everyone at Guiseley would like to wish Tom- the Thackley player- a speedy recovery after he suffered a break to a small bone in his hand following an awkward fall following a challenge.
