Match Summary v Keighley Shamrocks

Match Summary v Keighley Shamrocks

On a dreadful morning weatherwise we made the journey to play Keighley Shamrocks.

The following was the team for the game:-

Marcus

Evan

Freddie

Nathan

Jacob

Jack

Geno

Felix

Andrew

We started the match with the wind behind us.  With the numerous puddles of water on the pitch flowing football was going to be difficult.  Keighley’s first attack was snuffed out by Freddie and Evan. With the latter clearing the ball for a corner. From the corner Jack made the clearance. From our first attack Jack beat two players before crossing into the area where the ball was picked up by Jacob. Jacob’s shot was deflected behind for a corner. From Jacks corner Nathan flicked the ball goalwards but it went just wide.  From our next attack Felix had a shot that was blocked with the ball coming back to Jack who shot into the side netting.

From a long Keighley clearance Marcus had to be alert clearing the ball before the attacker got to the ball. Following a foul on Jack outside the area, Jack dusted himself down and took the free kick which just missed the far upright. Even though we had the majority of the possession Keighley were still proving a threat to our goal. First Nathan got in a great block and also Geno made an important interception. We finished the half on the attack with Jack making a great cross that Andrew got a touch to but the ball went wide. Just before the whistle went the ball reared up and hit Evan flush on the nose.

H/T  0-0

Evan was unable to take the field for the second half so Jacob dropped back into defence. The seond half began with the rain continuing to come down. The pattern of the game continued as in the first half with us having the majority of the play but Keighley proving dangerous on the counter attack. The first clear cut chance of the second half fell to us following a great passing move. Felix found Jack who beat a man  and found the overlapping Nathan. Nathan crossed the ball in towards Geno whose shot went just wide. Next Freddie made a good run and found Felix. Felix tried a shot but it was blocked with the ball coming back to Geno. Geno’s shot was well saved by the keeper.

Next from a Keighley corner the ball deflected in the area  and fell to the attacker but Jacob nipped in to clear the ball. As we approached the half way point we took the lead. From another good passing move involving Jack, Felix and Nathan, Nathan crossed the ball into the area and Jack controlled the ball well before firing past the keeper into the net.  0-1. Back came Keighley and from a good cross the attacker got to the ball just before our defender but the ball went wide.

As we entered the last 5 minutes we scored again. Geno made a good run and fed the ball to Andrew. Andrew’s attempted shot was blocked behind for a corner. From Jack’s corner the ball ended up in the back of the net with Geno and the defender both being close to touching the ball. 0-2.

It was only from this point that we looked comfortable and nearly extended our lead after a great run and shot by Geno.  Just as we entered injury time we scored a third. Jack made a great run and despite being blocked off by the defender he was able to thread the ball through to Geno who drew the keeper and fired into the net. 0-3.

Seconds later the ref blew the whistle for full time.

F/T 0-3.

The boys performed brilliantly in atrocious conditions and despite the state of the pitch played some good stuff.  Due to the performance of all players there was no man of the match award as every player was worthy of this.
