We travelled to play Horsforth on Sunday. On a lovely morning for football Horsforth kicked off on a very compact pitch. The following was the squad fort he game:-

Marcus

Evan

Freddie

Nathan

Jacob

Jack

Joseph

Felix

The early exchanges were very even with Jack and Joseph shooting wide from just outside the area and Horsforth having a long range effort that went wide. We then started to get our fluent passing game going. Joseph, Jacob and the overlapping Nathan played a flowing move that ended up with Jack’s shot going behind for a corner. From the corner the ball broke to Felix whose shot went just wide. From our next move we took the lead. Joseph won the ball found Jack. Jack trned smartly before finding Nathan. Nathan’s cross was swept home crisply by Jacob 1-0

Two minutes later we scored again. Felix this time won the ball and found Freddie. Freddie beat a man and found Jack. Jack skipped past a defender before smashing a cross shot into the corner of the net. 2-0

Evan then had to be alert to a swift Horsforth counter attack with a good clearance.  From our next attack a shot from Freddie wasblocked and cleared for a corner. From the corner by Jack the ball nearly went directly into the net.

The half ended with Horsforth on the attack. Freddie made a good block and Evan completed the clearance by putting the ball out for a corner. From an excellent corner the attacker headed just wide. From Horsforth’s next attack again they won a corner. From another cracking corner Nathan made a good block before the ball fell for the attacker whose shot was brilliantly blocked by Marcus.

The referee then blew for half time. H/T 2-0

We kicked off the second half and immediately had two good chances. Joseph had a fine shot that just went wide and then Nathan’s cross shot beat everyone including the far post.  Then after an even passage of play Horsforth got back into the game. From a free kick just outside the are the attacker chipped the ball over our wall and past Marcus into the far corner of the net- what a cracking goal.    2-1

With Horsforth tails up, we then thought we’d scored. Felix held up play well before finding Joseph. Joseph’s pass saw Jacob through. From Jacob’s shot the keeper pushed the ball onto the post and out for a corner. From Jack’s corner the ball never really got cleared and broke again for Jack who thought he’d scored when his shot hit the post and rolled across the goal line. However the ref didn’t award the goal.

However minutes later we did score. Freddie made an important tackle and found Joseph. Joseph powered down the field and as he entered the area fired a shot past the keeper. 3-1.

Then the impressive Felix made a great run finding Jacob with a neat pass in the area and Jacob’s first attempt got blocked by the keeper but Jacob followed up to score. 4-1

As we approached the last 5 minutes we then scored again. Freddie’s long range shot was blocked by the defender but Jack picked the ball up beat a defender and waltzed round the keeper before scoring 5-1.

The final scoring was done by Horsforth in injury time. From a quick counter attack the attacker broke into the area. Marcus made a great save but the ball came back to the attacker who managed to squirm the ball in 5-2

The ref then blew for time. This was another excellent team performance against a good Horsforth team. Some of the passing was excellent and our finishing and defensive work was very impressive.
