Match Report v Thackley Lightening

Match Report v Thackley Lightening

On a lovely morning for football we travelled to play Thackley Lightening.

The following was the squad for the game:-

After an impeccable minutes silence observed by all, we kicked off the match of the two unbeaten teams and disaster struck in the first minute. From an immediate interception the ball entered our area and despite a few attempts to clear the ball we didn’t and the attacker shot past  Marcus to give the hosts the lead  0-1.

We then came back into the game with some nice passing involving Jack, Jacob and Nathan with the latter crossing into the area and Geno flicking the ball goalwards but unfortunately it went wide. Next Max made a great tackle to break up a Thackley attack and sent us on the attack. Nathan found Jack who in turn fround Geno. Geno crossed into the area and the ball was met by Felix who shot wide. Again Max came to our rescue with a great tackle and clearance. Next we won a free kick in the opposition half and from Freddie’s long kick the ball deflected off the defender for a corner. From Jack’s corner the ball reached Jacob and his shot was saved by the keeper.

Then Marcus made an important stop with his feet deflecting the ball behind for a corner. From the corner Luke made an important clearance putting us on the break. Jacob found Freddie who in turn found Geno. Once a gain Geno put a good ball into the area and again Felix met the ball first time but the keeper was up to it making the save. Just as we approached half time we conceded a second.  From a rushed kick out the ball never reached our out of position attackers and the Thackley player ran towards goal before firing past Marcus into the net. 0-2

Half time 0-2

We started the second half on the offensive. Luke and Freddie exchanged passes before Freddie’s cross was met by Geno but the keeper made a good save. Then from a Thackley attack again Max made a great intervention. From the next Thackley attack, from a deflected cross the ball broke to the attacker but Marcus moved quickly and bravely to block the shot.

We then got onto the scoresheet in bizarre fashion. From a corner delivered by Jack the ball evaded a number of players before crossing the line off the back of a defender. Jack claimed the goal to make the game 1-2.

We then made a number of substitutions to revitalise the team and we spent a large part of the time in the Thackley half.  The goalkeeper made two smart saves from Jacob and Jack before Nathan hit the post from a corner by Geno. From our next attack the defender put in a good tackle on Geno and the ball broke for Thackley to counter attack. After a number of passes the attackers shot was deflected into the path of his colleague who clinically shot home 1-3.

We still kept going until the final whistle with further chances for Freddie and Felix before Luke’s shot was deflected just past the outstretched foot of Jacob.

Full Time 1-3

A disappointing result against a good Thackley team but there was very little between the sides and Thackley were more clinical with their finishing and made a few less errors.

Man of the Match: Max
