Match report v. Stanningley Albion 8th sep

The new season is upon us, after a couple of friendlies against our Blues and Whites teams over the previous week which gave us a couple of victories , but more importantly the chance to try out new formations on bigger pitches. During the summer we strengthened our squad with the signings of James Brook and Archie Lambert in order to compete  in the second division of the Garforth League following our league success last season. Bigger pitches, bigger goals, off side and much more to come .

Today’s starting line was Luke in goal, Max, Dylan and Tom in defence. The 2 Olivers prowling on the wings with Dan and Joel in the middle and Bolan up front.. Guiseley kicked off and were straight into the ascendancy. The opening exchanges were fast and furious but Guiseley were just edging the chances. Bolan saw a cracking shot rebound of the crossbar deserving a goal !  Making the most of the wider pitch, Oliver Meskell had some good possession and linking up well on the left wing and his persistance and desire lead to the first goal, a powerful strike which flew passed the keeper after a good run,

James was now in the action on the right enjoying his debut, he charged through the defence to latch onto a pass, beat the off side trap and his high shot beat the keeper, again hit the bar and came down just the wrong side of the line, again deserving of a goal. After a good spell of Stanningley pressure, Guiseley produced a moment to savour, a move which started in defence, through to Oliver Meskell again on the left who put in a great cross which was perfect height for Joel to head powerfully passed the keeper. We finished strongly with Dan and Tom having chances to increase the lead but the score stayed 2-0 at half time.

The second half began with Bolan rested, but again we started stronger with Callum having a shot saved and the rebound narrowly wide from Joel. at 2-0 Stanningley had a good chance to get back into the game, a meaningful attack lead to a shot hitting the cross bar and luckily the follow up header fell safely into Lukes hands. This did not deter Guiseley and they were keen to get the third, this came following a shot from Oliver Bolton which the keeper saved, but Joel was on hand to knock in from close range. Dan and Dylan tried their luck from distance. Luke was having a quiet game but was alert to come off his line and clear well.

Joel completed the scoring in style, a clever quick free kick from Dan saw Joel in space, a good turn, piece of skill and sublime finish in to top corner for his hat trick and the 3 points. Full time 4-0, a great first game performance from all the lads. Dylan, Max and Matthew all put in solid defensive contributions, Dan, Callum, Tom and both Olivers created lots of opportunties. Bolan and James were busy causing problems without any luck. Joel was a real handful today scoring 3 and creating more more. Thanks to Stanningley who competed well in a friendly and well fought encounter.

Great start from the boys. A long way to go but we can be very proud of all your boys efforts today. Well done everybody. Special mention to Tom, his best game for us in a new position.
