U10s – Blues – Match Report v Silsden Knights (Sun 23rd Sept)

We played our first league game of the season against a depleted Silsden team.

The following was the team that played in the game:-

Marcus

Freddie

Nathan

Joseph

Jack

Felix

Geno

Subs: Jacob,  Max

There was a very even start to the game with both sides trying to pass the ball but more often than not failing in the final pass. The first chance fell to Joseph who shot wide. Then Freddie made an important block before the attacker shot over.

The stand in Silsden goalkeeper then made a good save from Jack’s attempted chip. We finally took the lead midway through the half. Jack and Joseph exchanged passes before the latter found the overlapping Nathan. Nathan’s cross was blocked by the defender but the ball was picked up by Jack who beat three defenders before shooting past the keeper. 1-0

Seconds later it should have been 2-0 but Felix took his eye off the ball at a crucial moment. However Felix didn’t have to wait long to get on the scoresheet. Jacob won the ball in midfield and released Geno. Geno got to the byeline and pulled the ball back which just evaded Nathan but Felix met the ball at the far post and scored.  2-0.

Back came Silsden and Marcus was forced to turn a shot behind for a corner. From the corner there was a scramble before Max cleared the ball. Just as Half Time approached we scored again. Nathan again took on the defender and played in a great ball which Geno got to first but his effort was blocked. The ball was picked up by Felix who shot home 3-0.

From a free kick just outside the area, Silsden nearly scored. The ball curled around the wall and struck the bottom of the post before Freddie cleared the ball.

H/T 3-0

Within minutes of the re-start we were 4 up. Max again made a great tackle and found Jack. Jack played a great through ball for Joseph to run onto. Joseph bide his time before shooting home 4-0

From a great Freddie free kick Joseph trapped the ball before setting up Jacob who shot just wide.

Silsden then got a goal back. From a good passing move the attacker fired the ball into the corner of the net giving Marcus no chance.  4-1

Minutes later it was nearly 4-2, but for a great tackle by Max that stopped a certain goal.

We then made it 5-1 following a well placed shot by Jack.  From virtually the next attack we made it 6 following a good ball by Freddie to Jospeh. Joseph then found Geno who shot home.

Back came Silsden with a shot that Marcus did well to hold and also from a free kick aflick that had everyone beaten but just went past the post.

We then scored 3 quick goals one for a Jack which gave him a hat trick after a fine run and shot, and two further goals from Felix. The first was to prod the ball in following the ball squirming loose after the keeper made an initial save. The second (and Felix’s fourth) came following a great run by Nathan who squared the ball for Freddie whose shot was blocked but Jacob reacted first finding Felix who scored. 9-1

Final Score 9-1.

It was a great team performance against a good Silsden team that were unfortunate to have onceded so many goals and were themselves unlucky that they didn’t score a few more goals.

All members of the team were outstanding but the MOM goes to Felix for his four goals.

A big thank you goes to all the parents, children and players who helped clear the grass off the pitch so that the match could go ahead.
