Match Report v Menston 08/09/2013

Today saw our first game of the new season, played in perfect conditions on the all weather pitch at St. Mary`s School. It was also our first appearance in the Craven league, giving the team the chance to play some different teams.

Menston started the game strongly, forcing us back from the start, and deservedly taking an early lead. To the boys credit, they stuck to their task well, and gradually worked their way back into the game. Both Gerald and Jozef scored excellent goals, to reward the team`s efforts.

Particularly pleasing were the outstanding performances produced by Antonio and Alessio. Antonio made several brilliant saves, and one in particular was special, diving full length to push the ball away from the top corner. Even Buffon would have been proud of that! Alessio always gives a wholehearted performance, and today he made some crucial last ditch tackles, to save certain goals. Perhaps more pleasing, however was his much improved use of the ball, making some clever passes to his teamates.

With Ryan showing off his dribbling skills down the right wing, and Luke, Elliott and Jed all battling well to help the team, it was a good all round team effort. The game was very competitive, played in a good spirit by two well matched teams.

Hopefully we can build on this good start, particularly by producing a bit more in the way of passing and link up play between the boys. We did this on a few occasions today, and that`s when we were at our most impressive.

Overall, a good first performance!
