Match Report v. Leeds Maccabi

Match Report v. Leeds Maccabi

Back to league action after the xmas break we travelled to Roundhay Park with a full squad and a very heavy muddy pitch awaiting us. We were quickly in control dominating possession and created chances earning ourselves numerous corners. From one such, a quickly taken set piece saw Joel narrowly shoot wide, Dan then had a great run and shot just wide.

Our defence had to be alert for any breakaway, and Luke was off his line quickly to avert the danger.  Our hosts first real shot put them 1-0 against the run of play, but this made them up the game and Luke had to make a couple of saves.  Dan again went close before an inspired substitution saw Oliver Meskill enter the game and within a couple of minutes had curled his shot into the top corner from outside the area this lifted the boys and as the half came to a close a great pass from Dan put Bolan clear and he superbly finished in the bottom corner right on half time to put us 2-1 up at the break.

The second half saw Dylan and Joel have a rest.  We started to play some better football, trying to pass and use our skill and pace, but the pitch was making it very hard.  Our wingers, Callum and both Olivers were struggling to get into the game with the wings being so muddy, but we kept trying and never gave up.  A goal mouth scramble finally fell to Bolan who made it 3-1.  Tom went close firing just over and shortly after got his reward firing in a cross shot.  Bolan was causing lots of problems with his pace and bringing team mates into the play.  Joel was unluckly with a header before Dan fired home from distance into the top corner, a great strike ! As the boys began to tire and a number of subs changed the formation a bit, Leeds pulled a consolation goal back with a nice headed goal from a corner.

Max and Matthew had been outstanding in defence with plenty of tackles and clearances and Luke alert behind them in case .  Not our best performance, but again we are showing a bit of grit playing tough opposition on a very difficult pitch.  Well done boys, final score 5-2.
