Back in action for another tough test against a good hard working Horsforth team on a very heavy pitch. Playing today were Luke in goal with Dylan and Matt in defence, Joel, Dan and Oliver M in midfield and Bolan up-front. The subs were Callum and Max. No Oliver B or Tom today.
Guiseley were soon causing problems for the Horsforth defence and it wasnât long before Bolan found the net with a simple tap-in 1-0 Guiseley after only 1 minute. Unfortunately we could not build on this good start and allowed Horsforth a good few chances to equalise; luckily Luke was alert in goals and managed to thwart their chances.
Guiseley looked dangerous at times going forward with some good inter-play from Dan and Joel in midfield trying to create chances for Bolan but the Horsforth keeper was equal to the Guiseley shots. The midfield were working well today Dan and Joel. Bolan was linking up nicely with midfield and had a couple of good chances saved. Joel’s corner found Dan unmarked whose header went close, good effort.
Guiseley made their first substitution with Callum replacing Oliver M and Max on for Matthew, lets hope the changes could unlock the resolute Horsforth defence. Callum was straight into the action and won a corner which landed right on Bolanâs toe who was able to guide his shot past the keeper; 2-0 Guiseley. It wasnât long before Guiseley were celebrating again; this time from a long throw by Joel which landed sweetly for Bolan, he turned on a sixpence and fired low and hard in the corner 3-0 Guiseley.
All in all a little fortunate to be 3-0 up at half time, if it was not for some cool, composed finishing which saw Bolan with a first half hat-trick then we would have been level. We were giving away too many corners and not making enough crucial tackles so a big push was needed in the second half to close this match out.
Horsforth started the second half brightly and it wasn’t long before they had their reward to make it 3-1 Guiseley. This suddenly sprung Guiseley into action and threatened the Horsforth goal with a chance just fired wide by Dan. Another chance fell to Bolan and he skipped past two challenges in the box to score his fourth and Guiseleyâs fourth of the day 4-1 Guiseley.
Guiseley then produced their best football of the day with some excellent flowing moves. Bolan crossing for Joel who turned and shot low into the corner to make it 5-1. Straightaway from the kick-off Guiseley produced another clinical attack which saw Bolan grab his fifth goal of the game to make it 6-1 Guiseley. Dylan who had been solid all game in defence, ventured forward through the midfield and kept going and his shot found the back of the net with a well deserved goal to make it 7-1 Guiseley.
Horsforth had a great chance to grab another but for an excellent save by Luke to stop a shot which was destined for the top corner.
Joel who had bossed midfield today made way for Matthew who straightaway ventured forward beating everybody who challenged him. His attack deserved a goal but was cleared to Dylan who smashed home to grab his second goal to make it 8-1 Guiseley. Matthew was not content with his last effort going agonisingly close, he pushed forward again and eased past the Horsforth challenges and this time made sure he scored 9-1 Guiseley.
Dan put himself on the line yet again as he does every week and took a bang to the head and was replaced by Joel. His good work played in Oliver M whose shot was well saved by the Horsforth keeper .With Max pushing forward from defence hoping to get on the score sheet, this left a couple of gaps at the back and Horsforth exploited this on the counter attack and grabbed their second goal of the day 9-2 Guiseley.
One final chance of the game for Guiseley fell to Max whose rare foray forward saw him receive the ball in the box with a sight of goal but unfortunately the hunt for the elusive goal continues as the opportunity fell to his weaker foot and he shot just wide!
A great result in difficult conditions but as proven all season long, our boys are able to grind out a positive result when the match is not always going their way. A special mention to Bolan for grabbing five goals – a great effort and well done Horsforth for a good solid competitive performance.
