We welcomed Baildon for the eagerly awaited potential title deciding game to Crompark. Having had two great games already producing one win each this was going to be a tense close battle, we had a full squad together following recent injuries and illness and we were going to need them all.
Baildon settled quicker after a scrappy opening few minutes and were having the lions share of possession, but to a boy we were defending manfully. We took a good ten minutes to get hold of the game and some what against the run of play we took the lead when Oliver Meskill slotted home following a blocked effort from Bolan. Oliver has come up with a number of great finishes and important goals this season. The goal gave us more confidence and our wingers, Callum and both Olivers were now enjoying some good runs and crosses, in defence Dylan was his usual solid self ably assisted by Max and Matthew. Dan and Joel were winning tackles, breaking up Baildon attacks and feeding Tom and Bolan up front. Both teams playing good football and both keepers on top form, specially Luke in our net, one stunning save on to the bar and a great high catch under pressure.
Half time brought a well earned rest for the boys who had battled really hard and played good football to be leading 1-0. The second half was end to end, great defending and counter attacking. Again Luke on top form and a bit of luck as Baildon hit the post. We were standing tall and looking good on the attack, one such attack saw Bolan race through, he was forced wide, but showed great skill and composure to keep the ball, look up, find Dan with a square pass, one touch and he fired home 2-0 . Baildon were not done, within 3 minutes they had pulled one back. The last ten minutes produced plenty of chances and good defending from both sides. It was our day today despite Baildons valiant efforts. Final score 2-1
The boys were superb today, stronger than ever and showing how they have grown as a team and into there own ability and confidence. They have put themselves in a great position with just 4 games to go and I am sure they can finish the job off. Our thanks to Baildon for 3 amazing matches against 2 very even teams supported loudly and fairly by both sets of parents. A credit to under 10 football.
