A cold cloudy morning for Garforth’s visit to Littlemoor.
Harry Wade was on sparkling form and soon dug out a chance for Ryan to strike – just wide. We then parked ourselves in their half – any forays into ours were dealt with by Harry Griffin and Marc. A Tom lob just sailed over the bar in the 12th – a point at which it felt as though we should be well in front.
But we weren’t.
A series of shots went wide of their goals and they didn’t really get much chance to do anything other than defend. Finally Marc headed in a corner in the 24th (his first goal – he announced) 1-0. 4 minutes – later he scored his second from another corner 2-0!
Unfortunately Garforth found our net from a corner 2 minutes later 2-1. Thus the half ended.
The second half began with us piling on the pressure – with several shots going wide. In the 5th minute the ball came out to Harry Wade who fired in a beautiful shot – 3-1. We relaxed and they hit the post a minute later. There was still a long, long way to go. They broke away in the 9th and scored 3-2. We came close in the next ten minutes with shots/lobs from Sam, Rory, Callum and Ryan.
Their goalmouth was blessed and in the 23rd the surprising but seemingly inevitable happened – with some great passing Garforth got through and a powerful shot made it 3-3 . Then piling misery onto disbelief they took their chance a minute later to make it 3-4.
An amazing come back for them – real disappointment for us.
In the next five minutes we shot just wide three times and a Tom shot was parried by their goalkeeper onto the post. With respect to Garforth – this was a shock defeat for us.
Still – some positives– Harry Wade was amazing, Lucas was indefatigable, Ryan never gave up, Marc made some superb clearances and everyone gave their all. Somehow it just didn’t go our way – mainly because Garforth just didn’t give up – and that’s football.
