By last Thursday evening the prospects of our Saturday morning inter-squad friendly going ahead was not looking good. Just six confirmations and Rob ringing me with the grim news that Friday nights forecast was a -2 temp!
By Friday eve the minimum 10 were confirmed and the British weather typically didn’t materialize – the sun came out, we didn’t freeze and the pitch a little boggy – perfect!
Lots of goals as usual with yellow tops proving stronger for much of the first half but red bibs coming back with a strong finish before the break. A couple of goalkeeper switches gave the chance for everyone to play outfield and moving Mia to red bibs in defence for the last third of the game seem to inspire Silvie, Siena and Morven into a period of great attacking play with intelligent passing, Silvie netting two rightly deserved goals during this period.
Other highlights were Megan vocally shouting for passes (more of that please!) and her performance later in goal, in particular saving a powerful Mia shot and Mia’s great chip to net the followup. Not sure about the goal celebration – something to do with a chart song dance called Gangnam Style – now i feel like a typical old dad!
Comical moment – one of our girls picking up the ball to prevent it going out for a corner! (Free kick rightfully awarded thanks to ref Jarrod)
I’ve said it before but these games ARE giving the girls good matchday experience for next August when we start to play in a league against other clubs for real points. They clearly enjoy the friendlies which is very pleasing.
Girl of the game:- SILVIE

GUISELEY DAY –
A great afternoon was had at Guiseley day for the Guiseley AFC v Vauxhall Motors Blue Sq match which we won 2-1 (but should of sealed victory by a much bigger margin). All boys and girls teams were invited with Ruby and Mia representing our age group. The children had some group photos taken, paraded around the pitch at half time and roared The Lions on to victory!
