We were placed in League 2 and played the following teams:-

Bingley Juniors-Won 3-1 (Scorers: Jack, Thomas 2)

Scholemoor Juniors B – Drew 0-0

Silsden Juniors A- Lost 3-0

Keighley Shamrocks C- Won 6-1 (Scorers: Thomas, Josh 2, Jack 2, Jacob)

We finished in 2nd place with a record of P5 W3 D1 L1 F13 A5  Pts 10

This put us into the Quarter Finals against Scholemoor A who had won their league.

After an even start Marcus was called upon to make a good block with his feet before Josh found Jack who played a great ball through for Thomas to run onto. Thomas drew the keeper before placing his shot into the corner of the net 1-0.

The second half started with Scholemoor on the attack but good work by Nathan, Jacob and finally Marcus ensured we didn’t concede. 2 minutes from time Josh’s perfect ball cleared the last defender allowing Thomas to again run through and shoot past the keeper. 2-0

There was still time for Nathan to fire a half volley just over the bar after good interplay between Jack and Jacob

Final Score 2-0.

Semi Final v Silsden A

Having already lost to Silsden in the league stage, we adopted a more cautious approach to this eliminator. Marcus again was having a solid game and this was giving the rest of the team pleanty of confidence. So much so that from a great passing move from the back involving all our team, Josh jinked past 3 defenders before firing past the keeper 1-0.

We started the second half with Silsden pressing. Again our defence stood firm and Jack, Nathan and Thomas were all involved in breaking out into the opposition half without really threatening. Just as we approached the last 3 minutes we scored a killer second. Jacob broke up play and found Nathan who in turn found Jack. The chance looked to have gone but Jack retained posession and threaded a good ball to Thomas whose shot powered into the corner for his 6th goal of the tournament and more importantly a place in the final. F/T 2-0

Final v Gomersall and Cleckheaton

As we entered our 8th game of the tournament the boys were ready for one last effort. The first half of the match was very even with Marcus maintaining a clean sheet with a great double save, the second save knocking his baseball cap off!! H/T 0-0

In the second half we weren’t as cautious and Nathan and Thomas both had chances but their shots went wide. Just as the whistle blew for full time Josh made an important block to deny the opposition player a shot. F/T 0-0

We entered the first period of “Golden Goal”  and again it was very even with defences being on top. However in the second period of extra time “Golden Goal” we finished very strongly putting in an immense effort to win the game with Jack having a goal bound shot blocked and Josh shooting just wide. At the other end Jacob got an important interception but the match ended with a 0-0 draw after extra time.

The tournament was to be decided by the lottery of penalties. Unfortunately we lost 4-3 but every one of the team performed magnificently and deserved more than the excellent runners up trophy they received.

It certainly bodes well for the new season.
