Guiseley Yellows 9-1 Bingley Madrid (U9)

Guiseley Yellows 9-1 Bingley Madrid (U9)

Following on from last weeks useful workout friendly against Menston, we were back in league action away to Bingley Madrid.

With Top Scorer Charlie out of the game due to illness we once again had to shuffle the team about with Niall playing as the lone striker.

Playing on AstroTurf was always going it be a tough test, especially as we had come unstuck on the same surface a few weeks before, and for the first few minutes of the first half we looked a little uneasy against a strong physical Bingley side, until we got into our rhythm of which Niall did well to hold the ball up, and forced a number of corners.

We opened the scoring with a good strike from Niall which was deflected past the unfortunate home keeper, and this was quickly followed by our second with Oliver delivering a superb inviting cross to Taylor who tucked away his shot first time, into the bottom corner. Bingley responded immediately and a fine strike into the top corner left Fin with no chance, and the home side could well have been level if Fin hadn’t turn a low shot around the post for a corner. From that moment on we simply didn’t look back and played some of our best football for some weeks, Taylor rifled in our third from the left and he completed his hat-trick with another tidy finish and shortly before the end of the first half he got his forth after good link up play from Niall, Jaiden & Oliver. So a commanding 5-1 lead at half time.

Joseph was introduced for the second half in place of Niall and Josh replaced Fin between the posts. The second half continued as the first had ended with the boys being dominant in possession and Will & James marshalled the Bingley strikers well, and Josh to be fair was only troubled once or twice and had to turn one dipping shot onto the top of the crossbar.

Joseph’s fresh legs really caused the home side problems and a combination of great build up play and raw pace saw him help himself to a tidy second half hat-trick. Taylor completed the victory with a precise header from a well delivered corner from Oliver, after James bettered his miss of the season from a few weeks earlier when shooting high & wide of the target with the goal at his mercy! Stick to defending Mr Bedford!

So a comprehensive 9-1 away victory over a good organised team, but I thought our passing, tackling and overall teamwork were excellent on the day. Man of the match was another close run thing, and I think there were a number of candidates including Oliver who I think had one his best matches of the season, but the supporters votes today went to Taylor for his five goal haul, so a big well done to him and everyone involved today.

Following Sunday’s results the league table is now looking like this:

Sutton – 31 pts (5 games left)
Horsforth – 31 pts (3 games left)
Yellows – 31 pts (6 games left)
Blues – 25 pts (5 games left)

We have a huge game this Sunday with us entertaining Horsforth at Rawdon St Peters (11am ko) and the Blues go to Sutton, so things couldn’t be closer. I’m sure the boys would appreciate as much support as possible this Sunday, so hopefully they’ll be plenty of parents, friends and family cheering them on.

One for your diaries……….Presentation night has been confirmed for Friday 21st June. Specific details will follow closer to the time.

Cheers

Craig
