What a fantastic game against the champions elect.
Shadwell came to Guiseley after winning everyone of their league games so it was going to be a tough one today.
After doing our homework on Shadwell we tweaked the team and gave certain players marking jobs to do which they did very well.
It was Guiseley that opened the scoring when Jamie put the ball home after a scramble in the goal mouth. Shadwell seemed a little shocked after their previous results and it didn’t take them long to get back into the game and grab an equalizer.
After the break Guiseley went ahead again after an own goal from Shadwell. The Yellows were doing what they were asked to do, and it was frustrating Shadwell. But they are a good side and they came back at Guiseley with 2 more goals to make it 2-3 to the away team.
One of the many things that Guiseley Yellow showed today was that they never gave up and after attack upon attack they won a corner which Tom curled in beautifully, from the corner!
So the game ended 3-3 and I still think Shadwell will be champions, they are a great side with great support, I thought their parents and supporters were fantastic as well as their Manager and Coach. We wish you well in Division 2 next season.
I thought our players today showed me why I coach. 11 players on the pitch, some had jobs which took them away from the game. They did those jobs and never complained. Fred, Arjan, Matthew, Robert and Jamie, thank you.
That left the rest to play and support, which you did, so thank you.
Luke was superb at the back, communicating, and the double handed save around the post was excellent, I say again how much you have come on this season. Brilliant.
Today was about not being selfish, about being part of of team….. the last two games we have drawn, coming from behind. One game we had ten men in a half, the other against really good opposition. These games have felt better than wins to me because you simply listened, that’s it.
Everyone played their part today but some of you raised the bar and went the extra mile for the team. Well done.
Team: Luke, Robert, Matthew, Jake, Arjan, Fred, Jamie, Tom, Ethan, Stephen, Declan, Sam, Finlay, Josh.
Goals: Jamie, Tom
Men of the Match: Jake, much stronger, cleared a ball of the line, calmer head. well done. Robert, best performance in a long time, calmer with team mates, positive attitude which flowed through the team. Great stuff.
Thank you to Neil, Andrew and Chris for helping out and Bill for refereeing. I think he does an excellent job.
