Guiseley Whites 5 – 0 Guiseley Yellow

Happy St Patricks Day!

I was very proud of the Guiseley Yellow’s today, even though we were on the losing side.

The first 20 minutes we kept the whites quiet and had a couple of chances ourselves with Tom causing lots of problems down the left side.

Eventually the whites class shone through and they scored 3 in the first half and 2 in the second.

But it wasn’t about the result for me today, it was about the way the Yellow’s performed. Winning the first ball, tackling hard, driving forward. We just couldn’t make that break through in the final third. Tom, Declan and Stephen had shots but we didn’t trouble the keeper enough.

The way that the team kept going, until the very end, was testiment to the attitudes out there today. You were excellent.

Everyone played their part today, Guiseley Whites are a Division 1 side, rightly so, and Yellows kept with them until the very end. Well done boys, hold your heads up high and be proud of yourselves.

Team: Luke S, Robert, Matthew, Arjan, Jake, Fred, Declan, Tom, Stephen, Jamie, Alex, Sam, Finlay, Ethan.

Man of the Match: Matthew, winning the ball, great tackling, driving forward, you had it all today, well done.

Thanks to Neil for running the line, (Andrew said he would do the second half but was nowhere to be seen)!

Congratulations to Guiseley White, hope you go on to do well in the cup.

Yellow’s, hold your heads up high, Bill and I are very proud of you, that was a step up today, and I think you did very well, and kept going until the end.

Training on Monday and Friday 7-8pm St Mary’s.

Home game on Sunday, meeting at 10am.

Both teams deserve a lot of congratulations for this game. The yellows, for a terrific team spirit that saw tackles, defence, passing and talk with each other so much better than before.

Matthew was absolutely immense yesterday and as powerful a man of the match performance as any seen, ever. He wasn’t alone though. Every player provided their best performance yesterday (special credit to Jake – your control of the left side defence, and calm passing forward for Jamie, Fred and Tom in the first half was superb), but the goal you all so richly deserved didn’t come. You’ll not play against another side this season as good as the Guiseley Whites, and you should learn from what you did yourselves today. Do that together for the rest of the season, and you shouldn’t lose again.

Congratulations to the Whites for their well worked win. Patient, probing football reaped dividends towards the end of each half, and all goals were excellently worked.

Mostly though, congratulations should go to Guiseley Juniors for putting two well disciplined, very respectful young men on the pitch together. No bad tackles, no abuse of the referee, no arguing and sniping at each other’s players. Footballers, gentlemen and schoolmates. Opposition sides but friends. Well done boys.
