Sunday brought some cracking weather in time for Guiseley Green’s first home game of the season, who were ready to make repeat last week’s performance.
Neil made a change to last week’s formation with Daniel playing up front in a diamond formation, with Louis and Ben in midfield, Callum at the back and Mathew installed as keeper.
Guiseley made a good start and were applying pressure although Burley had other plans and were soaking this up, their keeper was performing particularly well.
Guiseley eventually managed to overload Burley with a run from Callum.
Minutes later Burley levelled the score, with a Guiseley player out having his laces tied, Burley took the opportunity and retaliated.
It was all square at half time and we had a change of formation as we seemed to be naturally playing in the previous weeks positions? Owen came on for Louis in the second half and was helping keep Burley at bay.
Guisleley were again applying pressure with Ben making several runs and ripping through the Burley defence which eventually caved to into the pressure.
Daniel was working hard with Callum to limit the Burley attacks and keep the pressure away from our goal.
The Burley keeper was performing strongly again in the second half keeping Guiseley at bay.
We made several substitutions in the second half to make sure that all the team were involved, Jack and new player Ray came on in midfield and defence.
The game was beginning to go a bit flat when Burley intercepted the ball which resulted in a goal mouth scramble and an equalizer rolled in.
In the last few minutes Burley got a direct free kick which fortunately went wide of the goal and was a bit of a wakeup call!
Overall this was a reasonable performance from Guiseley, although we need to be making the use of our possession. Of course this gives us plenty of scope for training drills on our Wednesday night sessions at Nethermoor. I am sure if we work on our passing, movement and space we will reap the benefits over the coming weeks…
Player of the week was Ben.
