Greens’ Unbeaten run has come to an end after an evenly fought game against Keighley Shamrocks, depicted by the low amount of goals scored by both sides.
The first half saw Greens take the lead from a cleverly worked corner taken by Myles which cleared all the defenders at the front post and saw Nima nip in to prod the ball into the net.
The Greens defence played excellently and pushed up well causing Shamrocks to be played offside on a number of occasions thus frustrating their attacks and keeping their opportunities to a minimum.
Josh pulled off an instictive one handed save to keep us ahead going into half time after Shamrocks were awarded an indirect free kick in our penalty area for a back pass after much pressure from Shamrocks.
The second half saw some lovely play by both sides, great wing play by Greens and some clever interchanges between Oliver, Theo and Myles, with both James and Max playing well from the back and starting to become far more involved with the game.
Shamrocks kept up the pressure and sprung the offside trap to level up after some good strong play down the left wing, Josh came out of his goal to make a strong save, but the ball bounced off him into the attackers path and he scored into an open net.
Greens then upped their game again and pressured through the middle and down the right hand side to great effect and Shamrocks goalie kept them in the game with some great saves from Oliver, Myles and Joseph.
Again Shamrocks came back at Greens and sprung the offside trap to make the score 1 to 2 with 5 minutes to play, and credit to Greens they did not let their heads go down and showed great desire to grab a goal back to level the game up.
Unfortunately this equaliser did not come and the lads finished the game devastated to have lost a greatly fought game.
Man of the match was awarded to Myles for his tireless running from end to end for the whole game. Lets hope that we take the loss in our stride and come back all the stronger.
