After a short rest from the league we went to Burley for the annual 5a side tournament. The cold, wind, rain and sun all accompanied us under Richards gazebo. First up for us was Burley A, they were quickly put to the sword with 2 goals each for Dan and Bolan and one from Oliver Meskill. Luke had little to do and walked off with his clean sheet. Next up was strong team from Embasy , they pushed us hard and made us dig deep to earns a 1.1 draw with Bolan netting again. Knowing we had Baildon in our group still to come we needed to pick our game and heads up. Add to that an injury to star defender Dylan meant a reshuffle. A slow start against Burley C saw us go a goal behind before Joel equalised, enter super sub Tom who helped himself to a second half hat trick to totally change the game, Oliver added a 5th as we played some great flowing football. We had woken up now and put another 5 past Menston with 2more than Dan any goals from Tom, Joel and Oliver to virtually secure qualification if it came to goal difference. Not for the first, second or third time it was a top of table clash with Baildon, winners to top the group. As in the league, Baildon started stronger, created chances, we soaked it up, used our passing and speed to get back into the game and 2 strikes from Bolan and another superb game from Luke in goal led us to a 2.0 win, another injury to Dan didn’t deter us as we played Burley B in the semi, again they were swept a side with some great football and great strikes to lead 4 .0 at half time, Burley came back in the second half as we stopped playing and deservedly pulled a goal back, all be it in vain as we added a 5th. Bolan with 2, Oliver with 2 and Tom doing the business. We headed into the final against another Baildon team with both Dylan and Dan sitting out, this would normally be a massive blow, but the boys showed amazing strength. And resillience to adapt, a special mention to Joel who slotted in at the back, curbed his natural attacking thoughts and played brilliantly. The game was end to end with lots of chances in a very even game. Oliver and Bolan scored our goals in a 2.2 draw in normal time, Dan came on to try sure the defence up to give Tom a quick breather, again chances, saves, tackles but no more goals. Penalties!!! Baildon 1.0′ Bolan levels, Baildon 2.1, come on Lukey sort it out!!. Joel 2.2 , 4 well taken penalties, then enter the Hodgster, dives to his right, great save! No pressure on Tom, bottom corner 3.2 to Guiseley. Can Luke win it! Oh yes , another save, the crowd go wild, all pile on Luke. A well deserved triumph, at times frustrating, at times awesome, at times lack lustre, at times unplayable, in the end winners. Well done boys. All the boys played a big roles, Bolans skill and goals including one direct from a corner, Oliver’s growing confidence and again no lack of goals, Joel’s maturity and versatility , Toms instant impact, all these 3 with superbly taken penalties as well. Luke’s growing stature as a keeper and Baildons nemesis with 3 clean sheets, 2penalty saves and at times dodgy throw outs, Dans energy and finishing if only in patches and Dylan’s ankle!
