Burley Rovers v Guiseley Yellows U7s

Burley Rovers v Guiseley Yellows U7s

So, 30th September, and our first away fixture of the season at Burley Rovers.

A short trip to Burley on a drizzly, blustery Sunday morning. The boys started slowly this week taking a bit of time to find their feet – unusually, for an under 7 team, I thought we were overpassing (!), especially in our defensive third. But, that is to be encouraged and as the first half wore on the boys began to pass in the right areas and run with the ball when required.

First half was well fought, Burley did very well to restrict us, and we finished on a par.

After a quick team talk we turned around and immediately took control of the match. Niall, playing against some school friends, really took the game to Burley which lifted the whole team. Once again Lennon, a striker straight out of the number 9 mould, showed his desire to get in the action and score goals. Our defence was solid and positional play from Oliver was good, he also chipped in at the other end. Max did very well for his first game of the season, as did Charlie, without quite hitting his usual heights – a bit more concentration would help!

Joe did well in goals – we just need to work on speeding up his distribution.

All in all, another solid outing and a MOM performance (and bragging rights) for Niall.

Thoughts of parents welcome (you can add to comments section below!)

See you all Wednesday.

PS. Don’t forget our new Training / Match Day Award voted by the parents (and coaches) – for the player who trains, performs, listens and learns the best over the week. This will start at training on Wednesday and be presented after the match on Sunday.

Fantastic effort by all the boys on Sunday who showed great determination and teamwork to finish the match very strongly after a difficult 1st half.

Looking forward to more of the same on Sunday.
