Today saw our first home game of the season, versus Thackley. It was also our first outing on our new home pitch at St Mary`s school.
Despite going into the game full of confidence, after last weeks fine performance, the boys quickly found themselves behind. Thackley opened up in fine style, going first 3-0, and then 4-1 ahead, thanks to some great long distance shooting.
Rather than getting dispirited, this difficult start against a strong looking opposition, seemed to make our boys try even harder, as they sought to get back in the game. In spite of the over long grass, we began to pass the ball around to good effect, and amazingly the boys managed to turn the game around completely.
Our three attacking players, Ewan, Eddie and Jozef all managed to get on the scoresheet. Ewan showed his usual knack of being in the right place, at the right time, and then the ability to finish clinically. Eddie again impressed with his excellent dribbling, powerful running, and superb shooting, whilst Jozef showed off his passing skills, in setting up goals for his teammates.
In defence, Billy helped keep Thackley at bay with some terrific last ditch clearances and strong tackling. Harry once again impressed, particularly with his clever distribution to get our attacks going. His fellow defender, Louis deserves a special mention, having, by far, his best ever game for the club. His confidence is growing with each match, and today he was excellent in defence.
In goal, Zac made his first league appearance for Guiseley Blues. He made some crucial saves, and, just as importantly, showed his excellent distribution, always rolling the ball out quickly and accurately.
This was a fantastic game to watch, with both teams contributing to a thrilling, end to end match, that was played in a great spirit. WELL DONE EVERYONE!
