Beeston 2 – 0 Guiseley Yellow

Beeston 2 – 0 Guiseley Yellow

Cup game today so we decided to try out a few new things.

Even though we lost there were some good points to take out out the game. There were also some not so good points unfortunately.

On the plus side we saw some great work at the back again this week from the boys, Matthew driving out of defense on more than one occasion. Robert cool as you like and looking up and choosing his pass before releasing the ball. Arjan so strong again with the tackles and Sam picking his passes down that wing and being strong himself.

I thought Luke was superb in goal, the second half low diving save was something that a premiership keeper would have been proud of. I did think the ball was going in off the rebound until Declan threw himself at it and blocked it.

Jamie up front ran his socks off, again. He was up and down and side to side, great deputy captains role, but i felt he had to work harder than he should.

Tom, Fred and Declan were on the bench so those who were playing could show Bill and I what they were capable of.

Great work too from James, who started slow but then realized what we want from our players at Guiseley Yellow, hard work and teamwork. I thought you grew into the game James and were really into your flow by the end.

Ethan had a good start and was working hard, trying to find that ball for Jake up front.

The boys on the bench, (Fred, Declan and Tom), we know what they can do, and they did it when they came on so I don’t need to say anymore about them.

So all in all, the stars were Luke and the back four again. Which is not really a great thing because it shows what pressure they are under each week.

We need to win that first ball in midfield, we need to be more aggressive, and that doesn’t mean fouling, it means protecting the ball, making the challenge. Watch how the defense do it and replicate that in midfield.  (we did this last week in training, holding the ball, looking up for the pass and supporting. As well as the defensive work).

Try to remember guys, if you don’t pull your weight it means someone else will be working twice as hard to cover you, and I don’t think that’s fair on the team.

If you listen to Bill ans myself and we lose, we can’t ask anymore from you. Today I thought with the starting 11 we could have done better.

Team: Luke, Robert, Matthew, Arjan, Sam, Ethan, Leon, James, Finlay, Jake, Jamie, Tom, Fred, Declan(c).

Man of the Match: James. You grew into the game, That’s how we like you to play the entire game because as your coach we think you have the tools to do so. Prove us right next week!

A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO HARRY, ARJAN’S DAD, WHO SPONSORED THE TEAM KITS THIS SEASON. THANK YOU! I think my sponsored Merc is on its way for next week Harry??

Training Friday 7-8 St Marys. Any parents wishing to watch the session to see what we do then you are welcome.

Next game is Sunday 22nd September at Home. Rawdon Littlemoor School. Meeting at 12.30pm

I thought there were some good positives from yesterday’s game. We coped fairly well a very tricky Beeston forward, we were tested in midfield, and the boys will have a better idea of the physical nature of the game as they are getting bigger and stronger.
Sometimes we have to battle for the ball, and yesterday in midfield I think the other team won that battle, but we did compete and hopefully next week we will see our players battle that bit harder.

    For the players….
Sometimes you need to earn the right to play and that involves a lot of tackling and battling for the ball, so just think about that over the next few days and how you could make more of a difference in that way.

We have a big squad and we want to give as many players game time as we can. Yesterday was a chance to try some players out in different positions and we will do that again next week.

Thanks to all boys for the effort they put in and to the parents for there support!

We lost to better team on the day but if we play our A game I’m sure we would beat them. Bring on the home fixture!
